Dr. Andé Wegner – DVM
Dr. Andé Wegner’s love of caring for animals first began in her hometown of Bourbonnais, Illinois, when she caught tadpoles with her grandfather in early spring. Every year they cared for them until they became toadlets, then released them back into the wild. This instilled in her a need to protect and care for animals, and her parents encouraged this passion by encouraging her to read and learn about animals of all shapes and sizes as a child. They often visited zoos and aquariums, where she gazed at every animal in awe.
Her path to becoming a veterinarian began as a kennel attendant at the age of 17. Soon, she graduated to the role of veterinary assistant before she was accepted into Ross University School of Veterinary medicine, graduating in 2005 with the highest honors. She returned to school in 2013 to become a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist, graduating in 2014 from Chi Institute of Chinese Medicine. Along with acupuncture, she takes special interest in surgery, diagnostic imaging, and endoscopy.
“In addition to serving pets in need, I love that veterinary medicine involves a lifetime of learning. When I can continually learn the latest and greatest ways to provide for my patients, I can be of better service to those animals and the community in which I live.”
Dr. Wegner is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association, and International Veterinary Acupuncture Society.
Since May of 2017 she has also been the Veterinary Advisor for Manteno Animal Control. In January of 2017 she became a Sponsor at the Kankakee County Humane Foundation. She is also a Veterinary Advisor and Committee Member of the Kankakee County Animal Welfare Advisory Committee, starting in June of 2016. And from December 2012 to January 2015, she was a Committee Member for Because Animals Really Kount (BARK).
Dr. Wegner has two Doberman Pinschers named Dee Dee and Jackson. When she’s not working, you can find her cycling, racing in triathlons, directing endurance events, camping, and hiking.
